When an old golf course in north Lufkin became available for redevelopment, the local community saw an opportunity for a new mixed-use development with a community center at its heart. The community center buildings use the emerging technology of cross-laminated-timer (CLT) as the primary structural system to create a column-free building shell, which allows the interior spaces to be configured in a variety of different ways to meet different programmatic needs. The innovative use of wood was a natural choice since the lumber industry is central to Lufkin’s history and economy.
